Joey's Story

About

In December 2019, Ashley found out that her and her former husband (JJ Megat)  were pregnant with their first child. Shortly after, Ashley began experiencing complications due to the diagnosis of a Subchorionic Hematoma (SCH). A SCH is a blood pool between the uterine wall and the amniotic sac; therefore, she was put on partial bed rest to hopefully lessen the bleed.

In the early morning hours on March 31, 2020, Ashley was rushed to the hospital because she was going into spontaneous labor.  The doctors diagnosed her with cervical insufficiency which caused her to fully dilate and cause a full rupture of her amniotic membranes. Unfortunately, that same morning at 9:29 a.m., Joseph Franklin Megat was stillborn upon delivery. Joey’s gestational age was only 20 weeks and; too early for any intervention to help.

In Joey’s honor, Ashley hopes to share their story with other families who are also going through loss. The team at the Joey Franklin Foundation, have created memory boxes to gift families who have experienced a loss, no matter what gestation. Ashley is also a licensed ‘birth and bereavement doula’ and ‘SBA Chaplain’. It is our hope that these items and support recourses bring you comfort in your grief journey.
